In healthy older subjects in a dose of 50 grams:
Oral glucose significantly increased blood sugar and insulin levels.
While oral xylose showed no increase (similar to the baseline case of water).
The study published in the British Journal of Nutrition, suggests that xylose may represent an alternative sweetener to glucose in the management of Postprandial hypotension (PPH).
